Venturi mechanic recommendation

Postby ewan » Thu Jul 06, 2017 12:55 pm

My Atlantique has just come back from CG Cars in Leicester after a couple of months of fairly extensive works and servicing. Carl, the boss, has been great throughout and the total bill very reasonable for the volume of work undertaken. He specialises in French cars so instantly recognised the host of Renault/Peugeot bits in my car.

Having collected the car on his low loader, he dropped out the engine and gearbox and stripped out the engine bay. Separated the gearbox from the engine and had a new clutch kit made to order. Fitted this, replaced the driveshaft seals, filled with fresh oil and re-fixed it to the engine.

At this time, the sub-frame and lower arms and link bars were sent off for powder coating, while the drive-shafts were repainted as well. When it was all back and reassembled, it was waxoyled.

The engine was then fully serviced with all new plugs, all filters and all fluids. New timing belt kit and water pump assembly fitted also.

The rear brake pries were replaced, along with several sections of wiring in the engine bay that had become brittle over time.

With everything re-fitted the car was running properly once again.

So then we had the dash out to sort out some faulty gauges (fuel and speedo). Sections of new wiring loom were required (to no ones surprise!). The electrician also sorted out the powered seat backs (that previously didn't work) and the windows (that had only worked slowly and intermittently).

Finally the faulty air-con compressor was replaced (too far gone to be economically reconditioned) and a new belt and gas fitted. It now blows properly, and beautifully cold.

All in all a lot of work was done and the car is, naturally, transformed. So if anyone is looking for a reliable and reasonably priced mechanic in the Midlands, feel free to give Carl a call.

There have been several pictures of the work on my Venturi on his Facebook page, so take a look there as well if you wish.

Now, the summer has arrived and its time to actually get out there and drive the thing.

Annoyingly it fell out on a test drive while with the garage. I'll have a new set made, so no big deal.

Today I took the car for its first drive since the work was completed. Wow - what a difference a new clutch and gear linkages make! She's a joy now, with a light clutch and slick and easy gear changes. Even into reverse is simple now (which was far from the case previously).

I've already missed the events I wanted to take her to (Vie en Blue and Wilton House) but hope to find something else to go to over the summer. My partner in the car is going on our annual trip to the Venturi/Nantes track for a weekend in Sept but is taking an MG this time and I can't make it anyway.

My next job is to have some new mats made. The original beige ones are tired and the newish replacements are black. I'd like to have a new set made in the correct beige, with the Venturi logo added. I'll let you know how I get on.

A few pics of the car now she's all sorted. Plus one if the new wheel cap badges. Fitting them is a job for tomorrow.
