Tips wanted for GTA steering rack rebuild

Postby Irish GTA » Sun Nov 22, 2020 10:54 am

The left inner steering joint on my GTA has a bit of wear, MoT advisory, so I need to fix it. Others must have had the experience already and have some tips.
Do you need to remove the rack, or can it be done in situ?
If it has to come out, what is the best method? Do the bushes between rack and outer casing wear too?
I will replace the gaiters. They are intact, but old.
Thanks in advance, Nigel

JL Engineering replaced mine without removing the rack. The part is from a renault 25 and Autodoc have a choice of suppliers. Quite cheap, but you may need a special tool to remove and reattach the part as they don't all have hex heads.
