RATS' rear light clusters

Postby clee » Sun Jul 15, 2018 5:44 pm

Been working on these for a while and they have not been an easy task. Getting the pods to sit correctly and true has been a mission but these have now gone for moulds.
LED pods dropped in on carriers and will come fully wired needing just to be fitted to OE plug . Matching plugs don't exist but it's just a simple job and will have full instructions.Spade connectors would suffice for most....
Can be painted at extra cost but have spent an age getting a perfect surface on the proto's to get a pure finish from the moulds.
Fit as per existing lights so pretty much plug and play .
I've done these for RATS' Racer but I'll only be using one light pod for brakes and use the other two to get heat out.
Looking at about the cost of one OE unit, if you ever find one, for the pair fully wired with LED installed. I'll firm upon price once I get the final costings for all parts.
Bums on seats for a pair ? I like them and need them hence I've done them so they now exist and you won't be messed about with any '10 required to make it happen' shizzle ....

That looks pretty good that. Not my cup of tea obvs but I reckon Euro Trash Alpeen owners and some Lotus Elan guys would be all over those like a cheap suit.

Got no rear light clusters...got no car to drive innit.
These are not OE but I don't think they are too Eurotrash big bling wing either.

Reminiscent of the Kia Elan...would look quite good on this black one.
Never seen a Kia Elan in the flesh though..

Clee, I don't like the round lamps look, but I wondered if they would be dressed to look more OE...there are cars that have round LED lamps but this only shows up when they are on.
A smoked wrap over a clear lens could achieve that and maybe look more like the real thing?
Lets face it, the supply of rear lamps has dried up, even the replacement lenses have dried up, so some cars are going to need to go this way. My GTA has the french replica lenses on it...they look fine, but arent perfect and are also NLA.
I found a place that does print and form on parts in small volumes, so maye a formed lens over this structure could work?

How many committed do you need to tool?

Possibly but these units are already shaped to the clear lens form so any cover would protrude.

Do they fit the A610 as well?

I think they look rather more "super car-ish" than std light cluster.
Nice work Lee.

Yes they'll fit GTA/A610/Elan

Will get a better idea on the 'look' once I get the proto's back from moulder. I meant to but it's been hectic of late ...

Lee,

As a new member I’ve only just spotted this thread, but just to congratulate you for doing this. I have been wary of even looking sideways at my rear lights for fear of damaging them and ending up off the road.

Do you have any finished pics and pricing yet? I’m almost thinking it might be worth putting my mint originals in storage and fitting these for daily use.

Phil
