Wanted : Spider Wheels and sport (twin/quad) exhaust

Postby SwagSupercarsDad » Sun May 28, 2017 5:57 pm

Hi Guys.
My Spider alloys (2 especially) have some nasty kerbing, and before I check out the cost for a decent refurb, I was wondering if anyone had a set of good condition original Spider (or A610 - I think they're the same - although front & rear are different widths on a Spider?) wheels that are taking up space?
I've seen that several Spider owners have fitted alternative wheels, so thought that someone may have a set of originals lurking around.
Also, whilst on a search for Spider bits, young master "Swag Supercars" (aka Lucas) would like our Spider to make more noise (sound a bit more "sporty"), so I'm also on the lookout for a twin/quad exhaust for the yellow peril - long shot I know, but if you don't ask, and all that. If anyone has any advice on a company who could supply/make one if I can't find one, then that'd be good too.
Cheers!
Ian

Thanks for the offer. If I can find some rears too, then I'll definitely be in touch. Ian.

New rears will be quite difficult to find....619 Ines especially, spider Ines more easily found, but that's a relauvptive term.
I bought these from Renault when I had an a610 the first time...I had just trashed a front wheel,on another car in a pothole and thought some spares would be a good idea.
Unless you want extra wheels , I'd suggest getting the originals refurbished...it's cheaper and the quality can be excellent....that said I have had variabile experiences even with the same company..one set still look great after 6 years, the other set look awful again after 4.

I've now been given details of a couple of companies who do good quality refurbishment of the wheels, and someone who "may" be willing to let me have a full set of original Spider wheels. I'm going to take some detailed pictures of the condition & damage and send to the refurb people for comment/quotations tomorrow.

Just to find the sporty twin exhaust now :)

Ian what is your current exhaust system on your car? Do you run the cat?

As far as I know, Miles, it's the original standard exhaust. By that I mean that it has a cat, small box and then large (rippled) silencer with single downward facing exit pipe on the right low down.
I've seen Spiders with the same as mine, but also with twin pipes and quad pipes, each having two smaller final silencers that are cylindrical, rather than my single big silencer.
I'd be happy with either type, as the car is just too subtle right now - I'd like to turn even more heads ;)

Ok that's good there can't be many left on the OE exhaust.
I don't think you will be able to get all the pops and bangs of the newer sports car as they are mostly fake and made by the ECU.
The number of tail pipes doesn't seem to make much difference,I have 4 and it doesn't sound much different from those with 2. Running with out a cat does seem to give the sound a bit more of an edge but its subjective.
I think if you can have a word with Rupert and maybe he could up load a photo that may help. He's system looks very nice and keeps the single pipe much like the OE one. I don't mind my 4 tail pipes but if I was to change then I would look at getting a Rupert type one and returning the car to the original look.

Hope this helps and maybe Rupert will be along soon with his thoughts.

Uh? Am I missing a post somewhere, Miles? Who is Rupert, and what exhaust does he have then?

Yep refurb is your best option.

With regard to the exhaust I would take it to a stainless specialist to make you one to your requirements.

Thanks for the advice - most people on here seem to think the same, so as soon as I have the time I'll get on to it.
Cheers.

Hi .
I had one made by Pheonix Exhausts in Cullompton in Devon - about 15 miles north of Exeter.
Designed in conjunction with Pure Motorsport to get the lengths of the primary and secondary pipes spot on to improve performance.
I kept a sport CAT which bumped the price up but will pass an MOT.
The difference in performance was very noticable with mid range torque much improved - I rather wish I had had a rolling road test done beforehand to verfiy this.
Identical exhaust exit - the stealth downpipe - the multiple tailpipe designs didn't do much for me.

OK, Rupert, so are you saying that your main reason for the change of exhaust system was to improve performance, rather than engine sound, and that you achieved that even with the "stealth downpipe"?
