GTA rear tyres

Postby paulrob100 » Sat Aug 31, 2019 12:02 pm

Can anyone suggest the best place to buy a pair of 255/45-15 tyres ? They seem to vary from £380 plus vat upwards (each).
Alternatively, does anyone have a good pair to sell.
I took the plunge & fitted a pair of 225/50s. While the car drives ok. It just doesn’t look right.

Not really many options I'm afraid. Michelin classic series, hence the cost. Or try to get close with some other sizes.

Avon do AVON ZZS  245/40 R15 88W. Could be an option. Bit smaller but possible and good price.

Achilles do something similar but its probably not EU marked as I can't see a uk price but you could try to see if they could be sourced and check if they'd be uk legal. Again costs seem very reasonable.

Not sure why anyone would come up with the name Achilles for tyres though?!!

They both look a bit too much of a track/competition tyre. How about these:

Good spot that Martin!

I believe non E-marked tyres will pass the mot, but technically aren't really legal to sell in the uk. So as long as you source them yourself and find a friendly garage to fit them, you should be ok.

Anything on the French forums on this?

Can do £435 each inc on Michelin’s but then the shipping would probably outweigh any saving unless you can collect.

Got a pair of new very old stock yokohama ones I can do for £100 each if you want to take a chance on them.

Toyo 235/50/15 is the cheapest option if you want something that fills the arches a little better

Thanks for the suggestions. I would rather go new or at least recent with a known history. My car came with 15 year old Yokohamas. While they had quite a bit of tread on them, i didnt trust them.
TBH i dont mind paying for new 255s, it would just be my luck to get an unrepairable punture in one of them, hence looking for options. I do use my car. Maybe 235 Toyos are the way forward

Thanks again all who sent suggestions.

As it happens,we are in France, so i thought i would see what i could find over here. The first trawl on the interweb came up with prices similar to the uk. However the next day, i tried again. I found http://www.1001pneus.fr. The correct Michelin 245/45-15 MXW tyres were 397 euros each including VAT & free delivery. Aparently their prices vary depending on stock & availability. I didnt even enquire about UK delivery. We have a car with us, so i bought them & arranged delivery here. The estimated delivery time was 3-5 days, but they arrived the next day :up

According to my calculations, it works out at about £720 for the pair. Not bad. I have looked on their website this morning & they are not listed, it looks like I got the last pair, or they are waiting for more stock.

Interestingly i also found http://www.pneus-online.co.uk who list them at £400 each delivered

You did really well there. I just logged on to my tyre trade account and the cost price has suddenly gone up to £446 each and there are only 9 left.
