Postby simontaylor » Fri Aug 15, 2008 2:38 pm

Last weekend I was down in Cornwall and competed up the Castle Hill in Lostwithiel. It was short at 820 yards, but a steep climb of 350 feet.

Unfortunately all the 4WD stuff beat me big time, especially in the wet.

Next Event is Brands Hatch on Sat Sept 6th. It is run by the same crew that run sprints at Lydden. So if anyone fancies coming down to watch, there will be sprinting in the morning and circuit racing in the afternoon. BUT, this is Brands Hatch and I am told that there will be staff on the gate looking for £12 per person to enter. I have informed the organisers that I have a few sprintrs coming to watch and some comlimentary tickets would really help. I'll keep you informed. I have not done Brands before , so it should be a fun one, regs state 1.75 laps per timed run.

OK, final regs arrived this morning.
There are 16 cars in my class, 9 of which are 4wd, so I dont expect to get on the podium this weekend.
In other classes there are 2 Clios, a Clio Cup, a class of 17 Porsches and a class of 12 TVRs which is often a very entertaining class.
For those of you that think you dont have he right car for a sprint, there is also a Fiat Seicento and a 6.7L Roll Royce Shadow entered.

I have 3 spare entrance tickets, Practice starts at 9am and the course will be 1.5 laps of the Indy circuit. I "think" the event is run like Lydden, Sprinting will be over by about 12:30 and then there is some club circuit racing afterwards.
.Tunbridge Wells Motor Club Brands Hatch Championship Sprint
.SEMSEC Saloons & Sports Car Championship
.Nikki Stevens Sports & Saloon Challenge
.SEMSEC Open Single Seater Challenge

PM me your address or give me a call if you would like one of these tickets, on the gate it will be £12.

Not too bad, considering I have never been round the circuit before.
Wet on arrival and practice was in the rain too.
WOW, its quite a steep slope as you come out of Paddock and down the hill before going up to druids.

1st timed run was dry and as the shys were so full I needed to make the best of it. Had a good run and it felt as if the car bottomed out at the bottom of the hill. It was a 1.5 lap course, 102 seconds(i think) just quarter of a sec behind a TR* driven by a chap who has done Brands hundreds of times. so now I had a target......

Unfortunately the heavens opened and the 2nd times run was wet, so no improvement at all, basically the first timed run times stood.

I beat 14 of the 16 Porkers, but they only got wet runs.

A great circuit, I'll be doing Brands again.

Si21, can you email me the photos you took please?

WOW, its quite a steep slope as you come out of Paddock and down the hill before going up to druids.

I used to race bikes (human powered) and we used to exceed 50 mile an hour down there. You used to be able to feel the compression on a racing bike, I can only imagine what its like in a car, waht sort of speed was you hitting at the bottom......90 + ......or ......100MPH ?

Si21, can you email me the photos you took please?[/quote]

I need to find the lead to the camera .....seems to have gone awol, as soon as I find it i'll get some pics mailed to you Mr T
