Renault Heritage today released some more information regarding events for 2009 including WSR Silverstone:

With regard to your experience, 2009 marks a new direction that is based on the following principles:

- More flexibility in the selection criteria with a registration system based essentially on the order in which requests are received

- Increase in the number of participants per WSR (compared to 2008) with the continuation of a limited number of rules to ensure the event is well organized

- Waived registration fees for pre-1945 vehicles

- Organization with a local club that will be your primary point of contact

- A "Collectors' Contest" held at each meet to replace the Histoire & Collection Trophies

- For reasons related to security and timing, we can no longer organize collectors' parades at the meets.

I can confim that there will be 400 infield parking spaces available at WSR Silverstone available on a first come first served basis. I have been sent a pre-registration form that I'll post up shortly.

It also looks like the eligible vehicle rules have been relaxed slightly:

1. All collectors who own a Renault or Alpine model marketed before 1979, or a vehicle from the Renault Sport or some unusual line (Avantime) will be able to participate in WSR meets, subject to availability, provided that they have paid the entry fee of 10 euros per car (except for pre-1945 vehicles).

Stephen, it reads like the relaxed rules only allow pre 79 cars ?????,
or is this an 'additional' rule to last years rules list?

Bad translation I think, I guess it should read:

1. All collectors who own any Alpine model, or any Renault model marketed before 1979, or any vehicle from the Renault Sport range or some unusual line (Avantime) will be able to participate in WSR meets, subject to availability, provided that they have paid the entry fee of 10 euros per car (except for pre-1945 vehicles).

Is it just me that feels that being charged to enter a free event is now getting a bit tired ,especially as you are part of the Renault exhibit ?
Furry muff you get a bag of stuff but now no parade lap which was really the highlight for the PAYING Renault supporting brigade .

Exactly, why should people showing their cars have to pay when every other man and his dog get in for nowt? I seem to remember the first year I went members of RAOC got in for free as a benefit, all other non members have to pay. Sure it's only 10 eurox de change but it's the principle.

I won't be bothering again this year as it's too "Chav" for me thanks, also the sight of a 3 year old swilling Stella from a can in front of their parents was the final WSR for me!

True of all car events, however WSR is still one of the best and cheapest for the Renault enthusiast.

£10 for all weekend and up to 4 passengers. That's £1 each per day.

Bear in mind the entry fee is just to make the display car numbers manageable, otherwise the public car park would be the display. It also helps to support the Concours, Gala and other hidden costs.

Compare that to Prescott where again you are part of the exhibit and its £48 for just 2 people.

Prescott everyone pays though, punters and competitors. Plus that was a cracking event last year and one I will be attending

The sight of a toff ragging his £1m Bugatti on pram tyres will do for me wat wat! Plus you might see one of those common 21's crashing into a barrier or two
