If you want to give me £3K to host the collector's events I'll make it free

So it costs RAOC half it's yearly subs just to exibit there

Surely our precious club funds could be put to better use? Then again Stephen Renault should be paying you £3k to organise it all not the other way around?

Exactly, you've misunderstood.

Charging 10 euro means we don't have to use the club funds, as long as the event is well attended.

I have always said that introducing even a very small admission charge would improve the quality of the crowd, but from Renault's point of view also would increase the administration enormously.

I can understand both arguments but I do find it bizarre that we spend rediculous amounts of money to keep these cars on the road and in a showable condition and then we have to pay to display them as well when general public gets in for nothing.

Granted, but I think most people realise that the display area is as much for the collectors themselves as the general public, who get no benefit from the additional collectors events.

If it was more than £5 per day I think it would be reasonable to complain, but not at that level. It's worth it alone just for slightly better parking and the gifts alone are equal or higher value.

I have more objection to events where exhibitors pay a lot more in absolute terms and only enjoy exactly the same benefits as the general public (unless the club pays for extra facilities) and none of the gate goes towards the exhibitors costs.

In fact I'm trying to see if we can make some more 'special arrangements' at events this year like we do at Bromley.

Fair enough. I'm not against it as such as long as no damage is ever done to the cars. £10 to display really isn't a big issue in the grand scheme of things and the benefits are satisfying to us as owners. I'm just happy to have the car and be able to show it to people who understand and appreciate the cars. :D

I forgot to mention, that in addition having trialled both free and paid registration Renault H&C found that even a small registration fee (10 Euro) encourages exhibitors to turn up and gives the organisers a much better idea of exactly who and what will be on display, allowing for better planning. Free registration results in a much higher number of no shows.

There are never any guarantees but I'd rather have my car in the collectors' area where I can keep a regular eye on it as opposed to the public car park where anything goes.
