Last sprint of the year

Postby eastlmark » Mon Sep 28, 2009 6:51 pm

It's my last sprint of the year this weekend, Sunday 4th of October at Debden airfield nr Saffron Walden in Essex, ( only about 5 miles north of Junction 8, Stansted Airport/Bishops Stortford, of the M11.)
With the race spider now nicely sorted it should be a good event.
Its also a round of the Ginetta, Morgan and TVR championship so a great entry is assured.
If anyone wants to come and watch, pm me with an email address or fax number and I can send you a entry pass. Starts way early but will probably go on unil 4 or so with a lunch break around 12.30. Can arrive and leave whenever you want.

well. oddly, although the course is pretty much the same as the earlier Debden sprint in may, everyone posted slower times, often the case on airfield courses where the track layout varies slightly. It was me who laid out the track this time so I suppose I cannot compalian too much but I was 3 seconds slower than my previous best here in my road going spider and this follows a great track day in Croix where the car was proved to be a fast car so its difficult to explain. anyway, 3rd in class in which the second place car was cheating! so not too bad a day but more was expected.
I am wondering if the car is better suited to the race track sprints rather than the bumps of an airfield. or maybe I should just give up on sprinting and concentrate on track days... who knows, whatever. no more events planned for this year anyway.
Thanks to Mark Wicks and Simon best for turning up to to support me, much appreciated!

Mark,
some competitors need to be reminded of the rules, because they dont even read them.
I find it best to go and chat with an official, ask them about a "situation" of a car with a modified block in it, ask him if he has a blue book so you can have a look at the MSA regs. Normally this is too much bother and then there is all the paperwork and costs for a protest and so the official will go and have a look and politely ask the driver if he wishes to reconsider which class he chooses to be in and that it is no problem to get reclassified to another class and save all the hassle and costs for him too of any protests from others, and how he will feel if he has to collect a prize when he is in the wrong class, knowingly!
Sorry, but I have done it twice on cars running List 1B tyres and the drivers normally come up with some last minute excuse about wheel availability and tyres on them, being borrowed and his car was ok when he sent the entry in etc etc..... and its fine for him to change class, he did not know how to do it on the day.
We race by the "self regulated class rules" and if the cheats get away with it once, they will do it again and "wee wee" off many more people than just you. It is your duty as a competitor to uphold the spirit of the sport and the class structure. We dont want the non-cheats not competing because the cheats are competing again.
There is still time for you to get an entry in for Eelmoor on this Sunday, Farnborough in Hants.
Free entry for spectators.
