Abingdon CAR-nival 10/11 June 2017

Postby simontaylor » Sun Jun 04, 2017 1:03 pm

Being on the organisers committee, I can invite you to come along and watch.

Saturday is a Sprint and Sunday a Rally, check out the Renaults entered, including an R5 Turbo1 in rally.
There will be a £3 charitable donation to Stowford house and an Army chosen charity at the gate.
You can enter from Honeybotton Lane, closes Post code is Head for OX13 6BS
From the A34, Exit at the “Marchan Interchange” & “Dalton Barracks” exit. Google seems to take you the correct way, through the Abingdon town. Do NOT go through Gozzards Ford or Cothill, you will upset the villagers.
I am Marshaling on the Sprint, click here for the Entry List
I am co-driving in the Rally, car 42, click here for the Entry List and we have the Turbo1 right up out tail pipe.
PLEASE do NOT wander about the venue beyond the marked access points as there is increased security and solider with guns will be patrolling.
This is not a spectator event, but you are allowed to come and watch as my guest. For the sprint, you will get access to the paddock and start line areas as well as a specific viewing area on a fast chicane.
For the Rally, you will access to the service area and viewing through a chain link fence to the "complex".
Food wagons and toilets will be available. If you want to stay over, FREE camping too. There will be a hog roast on Saturday night, Beer Tent and professional comedians providing entertainment.
I will be there from Thursday night, helping to set up, call if you need more details.

A little footage of what you will see Previous Event
And this year, car 1 in the Rally is a Metro 6R4, and being car 1, it is seeded to win so expect plenty of sideways action.

It is hoped (so long as the technology stands up) that this event will be streamed LIVE on YouTube.
You can watch the Sprints on Saturday and the Rally on Sunday, and also see some of the archived events from the past too.

Look forward to some feedback :-)

Hi Simon,

I went along to this in my A610, arrived about 11.00 and parked on a dusty side road. Stayed about 3 hours and enjoyed the rally action. Saw no other club members or Alpines and boy was it a windy day.
Still not sure if I saw you are not in action but hope you had a great day...!

Cheers, Barry

Hi Barry,
I popped along on the Saturday. Watched the sprints, a GTA would have done well long legs not many bends haha.
I did see a couple of the Renault 8 guys and lots of clios.

For the Sprint, I was marshaling on the last chicane of the runway course.
Yes, the courses are "fast".

I was co-driving is a red Mk2 Escort for the Rally, no 42, it was fast too. Being strapped in was essential as the grip just throws the car about in quite a violent way. Form 90 starters, we finished 26th, so my Driver Bill was very pleased as he has been building this car for a couple of years and this was its second outing.

Did anyone see the You Tube Streaming?
