Lee your perseverance is impressive with the best most complicated carb set up that could possibly have been invented, but I under stand the challenge to master it.
The speedometer has always over cooked the mph, the car has never gone so fast and it has actually improved the use of the low end torque of the engine having a slightly bigger rolling diameter, in the corners there is not much that will touch it, even I have not found the limit to the grip it’s endless, track only now with plenty of runoff, as l think it will be more like a 911, it would be amazing if it is still a gradual brake away.
If you are going to keep it and want it to be reliable take the lot of put a new manifold on with a Holly or Webber, and then enjoy the Atmo, the most under rated GTA when it can breathe :D

On the plus side...no overheating (in fact a bit on the cold side) no fuel leaks, no water leaks, working alternator. Always restarts, despite the stalling at idle. I’m sure it’s just adjustment now,
I anticipated teething issues...the quantity of them has been a challenge to remain motivated and it’s tempting to change more items to get there...but now I feel that we are definely getting there,
It’s behaviour on the road is fantastic, lots of grip, completely undistrurbed by rough roads and poor road surfaces and really quick to 60...which is all you need around here. Low end pull amazing.

Well after a quiet summer I took the Atmo to Bicester today for the scramble.
Still won’t idle reliably but aside of that goes well and almost everything is working just the the speedo contacts needs a clean as it’s still only working 90% of the time.
Just need to work out why the idle a bit sporadic...it’s occasionally fine....
That and it needs a wash.
Good to see people there on the club stand...shame the old cars were matched in number by A110s....getting a lot of interest.

Looks nice that Lee, the dark blue really suits the GTA.

Probably needs using more and more to iron out the flaws.

More debugging of the Atmo.
Spring has come and the GTA is back out and about after a winter break whilst I was working on other projects, including the 610 bits whilst they were off (well most of a year TBH...it only got used once or twice after Macon last year).
So new MOT this week...
And now I notice my headlights are steaming up...
Seems that the screen wash reservoir is overflowing into the space between the boot liner and the headlights.
There ins't a seal between the cap and the tank......so as the car moves water is sloshing out..it that normal?
As there is a breather, I think I'm missing something..

Steering rack
I have a bit of play in the GTA steering rack..does anyone know a suitable place to get it refurbished or a supplier of the end bearings for these racks...I assume its standard Renault stuff?
Cheers

Most likely be the UJ...nla....I have had to rebuild a few with new bearing/joints. It's not straightforward but doable. You will have to strip out old ( these are retained by peens) fit new,not quite the same joint and then re-peen/weld to stop it falling out.

gta at macon 2019 09052019_0000.jpg

Well...better score than last year...all of Macon event completed.
Minor issues...speedo/fuel gauge (standard issues), idle jet blocking (still crud in fuel despite clean),
More serious bolt dropped out of suspension getting onto Shuttle home...fixed by AA in 10 minutes once he got to us. Will be out with the torque wrench and checking the suspension over at the weekend.

In the words on a 1980's British rail advert..."we're getting there..." now around 3k covered since rebuild finished.

New MOT completed, no advisories, first time started since March, when it had a new inner track rod end and a service at JL engineering. Made the steering much lighter than before, no play at all anymore.
Everything still works, seems to be a very happy alpine, idles properly and running well.
Last weekend I put the HRW connections back on and sorted the rattle in the drivers door.
Its now tucked up in the garage again, all dressed up but nowhere to go....

Well done Lee. We need to arrange a meet. The Forest Row one has stopped for now thanks again to Covid! But we could aim for Loomies down near Leatherhead if you're up for it. You mentioned Custard might be interested, there must be a few people up for a socially distanced mini-meet and a burger. Just need the weather and a suitable date.

I see this GTA is current for sale at John Ashley Ltd

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1279529

I think this could be the perfect car for a new entrant to the Alpine world who has zero spare time for big projects and wants a reliable car for high days and holidays; would this be a fair assessment?
