Well this one has been getting no where fast for some time, but now putting in some effort to get it done.

Heads done, some additional work following some more flow bench tests that were done at the same time as 2.5ltr ones I reported here but didn't publish at the time, may do if anybody is actually interested?

You will see that I have used the dreaded 2.5ltr spring top caps on this build, but I went through probably nigh on 100-ish parts to find a couple of sets of good ones; reason why is on the other channel... worth thinking about for the racer boys

Heads need to go on, and then I can time it up, new cam profile, so should be fun, lots of lift for the big valves, and spread LCA for clearance mainly. So more to come on this soon hopefully, as the plan is to have it out this summer!

Well at last some progress on this one, so hopefully the engine will be going back in :-)

Image

My original thought and development - reversed headers, and I implemented them on the first build around 2007/8, and then copied over to the last version of JIL's engine build. Lee still has a set modified that would work nicely on a suitably modified unit.

So fun fun, still coming along…

.. stick'em on. :-). Up to you sir

Yes that time is getting very close, sorting blocks.. heads done, have cams, need to do the valve spring conversion, but have a nice single spring that will work over our rev range. Machine the stem seal arrangement. Then dry build and check valve clearance.. rest is all done. Oh just port the adapter plates. Gearbox is away, just need to sort the crown wheel and pinion.

Last update on this one was ages ago... .... well as I have been doing some hybrid turbo builds as a batch, I have finally got on to building the one for this project 8)

I have taken a Garrett A/R 50 compressor housing originally for a 50 trim, and machined it out and re-profiled for an upgrade in compressor as below. I have gone for a Turbonetics Super 57 trim compressor on this one, and married it up to Garrett turbine of appropriate spec, should make an interesting street hybrid. Some of the considerations for sizing on my post on Will's thread here:

Back plate machined to accept the super back and increased exducer diameter of 3.22"

So a few steps further forward... 8)

Thanks Lee, didn't know, haven't been able to get down there, still wiped out :(

Actually looking at the picture it just looks a mess... it needs some tidy up, will do that after it's all in though.

Thanks to Tommy, ecu received, I might have a fighting chance of getting this one working with this prototype ecu. For those that don't know, I had been running the previous build of this engine with a Fenix 3A ecu from a n/a 3ltr.. actually I need to check that, as it was a few years ago. But I had problems with the transition from working off to on boost, and was giving me grief. Andrea also on here had similar as he was running one before he went MS on his twin turbo DMC. I think I may now have it solved, but didn't want to take the chance with so little time. Tommy had an ecu effectively a programmable version of the A610 / Bi-saf as a proto, and we came to an agreement

Thanks both for the help.

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Eddie,

No, I wasn't able to read the data from them correctly, came out corrupt, not sure why. Didn't pursue it after that, as I went R25 n/a ecu on this project last time round, and all the others have been Renix 1, so not relevant. They're still here waiting for you though. So will you be over to the Ace with your car this year then? Be great to see it, I mean the true mid-engine twin turbo GTA :-)

Regards,
Martin

Bi-turbo

Postby E M Wynne » Sun Apr 28, 2013 10:36 am

Martin,
I don,t know if i,ll make the Ace with the bi-turbo...but I will with the 24vl. later this year...starting to design & build the loom for the bi-turbo " minus the engine " using a late BMW 5 series fuse box... so I,ll have all the fuses & relays under the bonnet... not up under the dash. Things are progressing slowly as I ,m having to spend more time looking after Carol & been working on a friends collection off motorbikes, he has 10 off them in various states of disrepair & he want,s them all up & running to put on the market. Will let you know when I,m coming over & i,ll be droping in to see Chris.
Cheers Eddie.
