My GTA Turbo.... (From Isle of Man)

Postby The Saint » Mon Oct 03, 2011 8:47 pm

Since I now know how to post photos, I have decided to let you guys see my car, and what I have been doing the past few weeks... Yes I am the guy that purchased the Black GTA from the Isle of man. Yes it does indeed need TLC.

These pictures were taken on the way home from the ferry in Liverpool. I had just got off the motorway after a 120 mile drive and before I got home I took these.....

There are a few areas that need help!! the paint has bubbled up and the gel coat is cracked in some areas...

Anyone got some spare indicator lenses?? this one is the worst, the other side is cracked too. I think they must be under some kind of stress to cause this??? or just fitted incorrectly???

Sorry...
But at least you already have one!! I have wanted one for many years, and the price was within my budget. Well it was.. now I see just how much TLC it needs.. the word budget, don't apply... One day I hope to have a half decent GTA, and my dream car... Stuff the expense..

Just wait until you see the rest of my pics.. It maybe a blessing that you did not get it! It has a wonderful oil covered gearbox... but at least the oil has protected the sub frame.. The engine has also twisted within the sub frame, the exhaust was hanging off and has a nice hole in it, and the pipe to the turbo is blowing at the turbo.... all repairable tho.

Everyday I learn a little bit more, and hopefully pass on my experience, to those that wish to live this dream...

Once I got it home I had to sort out the dropped headlining, as it was driving my mad.. I got some heat proof glue and ripped the lining out and replaced it.

I would take on a headlining any day, than a spray job.. Your work is amazing, and if I could I would get you to do mine.
The headlining is an easy job,, you just need to make sure you use heatproof glue, as the roof can get hot in the sun.. more so when you have a black car.

Well done for taking the time to take and post the pics.

All your issues are very common so don't get too down hearted, as long as it's a good runner and the underneath has not got too much grot then your on a winner

I am starting to get worried about the indicators though as they are unavailable new (AFAIK) and 2nd hand ones tend to be damaged due to the un-educated trying the remove them fromt he front with a screwdriver

Hey Saint well done!

I have that problem with the Le Mans I have just bought, it rests on my head when I drive and does my tree in. Can you post a "How To"?
