Well folk, end of last year I put loads of effort into solving various reverse engineering issues I was having with the series of Renix / Fenix ecu's, built a full test bench where I could run ignition, injector loads, tdc input and the other sensors, and systematically go about interrogate the electronics and firmware. I now have most of the transition tables and trims, set gains, limits and maps. The goal was to get F50 setup on a Renix D502 ecu (400hp on an OE D502 ecu, 550cc injectors, 2.5bar MAP sensor, 8000 rpm limit, idles fine and meets CO emissions) -done, and you can see the results here:

http://www.renaultalpine.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4899&start=30

P4 project set up on a Fenix 3A fully, and finalise my Renix 1 ecu mods. Well, I'm done, the issues mentioned in this thread are now solved as needed in the applications, and the final step was to get the Renix 1 past it's brick wall 6200 rpm Kill Joy rev limit... remember this post for the reason:

[Anyway, off on to another topic, gear ratios :-)

... and why the GTA / 610 ratios are a bit pants as they stand for a competitive hill climb, and fast road IMO

On a near standard GTA, the rev limiter really messes the ideal 1st to 2nd change, 2nd to 3rd isn’t so bad. To keep the car balanced, you need to not only change around peak power so the drop in engine speed takes you to around peak torque, but you also need to do it when changing gear is going to match road speed (no sudden jerking of the car and upset of the suspension and poise). The table below gives it for a GTA turbo. You will see that to meet these conditions, you need to make the change from 1st to 2nd at 6500rpm (outside the OE Renix ecu rpm cut), and 2nd to 3rd at 6000 rpm. The torque figures are for Will’s engine. Better spaced gears are really called for, contrary to what some people mute, but here it is black and white, well colour if my upload has worked!

On this point, and coming across an old post, Richard (SimonSays), how did you get on when you tested the following setup sometime back? I know it's really the stepping stone to going to a nice set of close ratio, but for those interested in an intermediate outlay...

just bought an ATB diff for the hillclimb car.

also getting final drive from a R20 4.1-1 i think!

and also using different gear ratios for 3rd 4th and 5th

the standard gta 'box is crap for hillclimbs and sprints, open diff and terrible gear ratios.

hope this will let us use a few more gears, instead of 1st 2nd and 3rd!

Well, here's my bad to the bone Renix 1 modified and tested in F50 (car as a donar) wound round to 7000 rpm :D

Martin,
Well done excellent.
First link worked for me.

Just a quick one what would be a safe Rev limit for standard valve springs on a 3.0, 610 lump?

What would be the safe limit for a 'standard' 2.5 lump might be the question, considering the time and effort Martin went to checking quality of springs and valve retainers?

You quality checked a lot of stuff Martin. Would you advise a 7000 rpm limit on a valvetrain that's not been checked to that level?
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Darren,
That would be my question if I had a 2.5 lump fitted haha.
