Identification please!

Postby trevbeadle » Fri Dec 13, 2013 4:29 pm

Can someone please confirm this part is the resistor for the heater blower motor ('86 GTA turbo )and should cure the "full speed only" problem my fan has (provided its a serviceable item!)

No ,that's headlamp/high beam related .
The blower is a large ' coiled spring ' type affair or is in the blower housing itself and a bit of a pcb type affair .
I'll try and grab a pic or 2 when I'm back at the unit in the morning .

The pcb one is fixed in the intake duct for the blower. It's a VW part and the part no is written on it. About £30-40 as I recall

Can you confirm it's more lightly to be a problem with the resistor rather than the rotary switch on the centre console and if so, can that be accessed without removing the blower-motor (again!)?

it could be a 2 quid fix.
The blow resistor also has a heat sensitive fuse.......and I posted the fix quite a white ago.

Trev,
Not sure if you have fixed your fan yet.
But I had a similar problem, just solved today.
I like you wanted to ascertain if the switch was at fault, it wasn't.
But in testing it I heard an audible relay click.
This is where my problem was. The relay was not in the relay panel above the fuse box, but further up behind the dash, once fuse panel and relay panel are released you could just see it by looking up.
The fan relay on my 88 turbo model was the second one from the left but you could feel it clicking.

Tested, relay fault was on switch circuit. Replaced relay all functional now.
FYI the wire spring by the battery works for speeds 1,2 and 3 only.

Thanks guys,

my heater blower has only 3 speeds, slow, medium and fast. Only the 'fast works' so suspect the item in the intake duct. Will investigate as the winter draws on!
