Ok gurus, thinking caps on !!

I have a knock.

Have absolutely NO idea what is causing them.
If truth be known, there are a couple.

One sounds like it comes from the centre of the car. If it was front engined I would have described it as the exhaust knocking off the floor.

The other seems to come from the rear right corner, and seems to be something vibrating when I accelerate. Particularly when cold
Sounds a bit like a dry shock absorber, but it did it with the GAZ, and it still does it now I put the standard ones back on, so I doubt it's that.

All suspension bolts are tight, and investigations revealed that the only loose items I could find were the vent tube from the turbo & the taillights were loose. This helped, but didn't cure

Anyone else had similar and give me ideas ?
It doesn't sound like a "something is about to fall off" noise, but it's annoying, the one at the rear is most annoying..............

Last time I had a knock/grinding noise from the back it was the drive shaft. Might be worth checking that? If you grab the driveshaft in the middle and give it some back and forth action (toward the gearbox and back the hub) it should not move and be tight. If it moves or seems slack it's probably worn.

Other thing could be a wheel bearing maybe? Worn ARB bush? Get it on the ramp and a pry bar and give everything a good tickle to find any unwanted movement. You sound pretty handy on the tools so I guess you have looked at all this already though.

Poss driveshaft as I've had a few fail just recently but movement in and out,box to hub is normal as it needs that to travel ....Any slack, grind, graunch in rotation then yes, usually at the box end .

Often overlooked, if the spare is in the engine bay (rather than in the boot) is it strapped in properly?
Unlikely to be this but mentioned 'just in case'.

Check the calipers aren't worn on the sliders. Give them a proper twist back and forth, there should be zero movement.

When the slides wear they tend to knock badly over bumps and the noise will transfer straight through the wishbones.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Cheers, couple of things to look at there.

Not the spare, that's not in the car, I guess a driveshaft is a possibility, I plan to have a good look next week when I dig it out of storage, fingers crossed it should get approved on Monday, then I have to refit the Gaz, got a nice new set of wheels and an exhaust to fit, as well as replacing the broken turbo water pipe, so I'll be in there deep !!

Hope to find something, but also hope not to, if you know what I mean..............

Can't help wondering if the noise in the middle of the car is a stone from the gravel drive has managed to lodge in the undertray somehow...................

Approved !! :up

My God, what a palava ! The authorities wanted documentation from the manufacturer to show weights, dimensions, hoprsepower etc since the taxes are based around that.

So, we duly provided it, then they refused to accept it because it came from Renault, and not Alpine, and wasn't stamped by Renault head office.
Bureaucrats, I swear :Mass

However, it is now done, pay the final taxes today, pick up the numberplates, then I have what is believed to be the only GTA Turbo approved in Norway !

Now it's time to :pint

So, update..............

Everything is going reasonably well with the car.

New exhaust from ART, sounds good, not too obtrusive.
Replaced the dodgy turbo cooling hose from Simon auto, since I had the intake off, took the chance to clean a few things up, like the throttle body and stuff, and now I finally got rid of the annoying flat spot, turbo lag is much less noticeable and pulls like a train right up to speeds which can actually put you in jail here.
Also stuck on some silicone hoses since some of the originals were showing cracks.
Thankfully the sticking throttle seems to have fixed itself for the moment........

Found the source(s) of my knock, a combination of the taillights being loose and the hose for the turbo cooling fan was rattling against the body, nice that it was an easy fix ! :D

Intermittent speedo has now stopped working altogether, so that goes back on the to-do list, it's an mot fail over here....
Thankfully the to-do list isn't big, fix the driver's door lock, find out why the driver's door wobbles ( possibly the hinge plate has broken away inside, I think), and fix the passenger's door switch.
Blower fan is a bit temperamental, but not high on the priority list.
That's all the small stuff, touch wood, although still pondering a trip to blighty next year for a respray and to have the chipped headlight glass changed.......

Do you now the guy with the GTA Le Mans replica and A310 over there? Think his name is Johann/Johannes. John Law is in touch with him.

I haven't encountered that guy yet, sadly for me most of the car meets are on the other side of the country !
I know there's at least a half dozen A310 and an atmo GTA in the area around Oslo, but hardly see any here.

There is a guy in the next town to me who rallies with classic Renaults, I know he has at least an A310, and an A110, as well as a couple of R8's.
I've seen his cars at events, but haven't had the chance to talk to him, I think he is something to do with the Renault/Alpine club, so he would likely know this Johan chap.
