Fuel Leak

Postby paulrob100 » Mon Oct 19, 2015 5:42 pm

I have noticed that there is a slight fuel leak from the rear of the GTA. It appears to be dripping from the plastic cover inboard of the offside rear wheel arch. If the ignition is switched on it fairly pours out. Is the rear pump located here ?

Thanks Paul

Rear high pressure pump, filter and also small tank .Probably a hose as there are both rigid and flexi but very much shaped to fit,odd sizes in/out so not an easy fix .

Will do. I haven't had a chance to look properly. Other than getting the back of the car up onto ramps, only to find that the cover cant be removed from underneath. So its wheel off tomorrow & a proper look. The joys of GTA ownership :crazy

So, it appers that the pump itself is leaking. Has anyone tried the ART replacement pump or would you stick with an original ? If so where is the best place to source one. Mecaparts do them for about 125 euros.

Walbro 255 external .Same physical size as oe and correct pressure, flow.Bosch 044 also but is a lot larger diameter and would mean modding the brackets/lines ....its a bit too big to fit std

I have the old fuel pump, pipes and brackets from the breaker if you need them in case of snapping etc. The fuel pump might be a much cheaper option (obviously if it doesn't work no charge) but can understand if you want to go new.

The ART kit looks to be the same as the walbro GSL392 inline kit on eBay..for £90...looks to have the mounting kit and unions etc.
But some listings quote 255lph others 300.
You would need someone who knows their "unions" though to confirm diameters for inlet and output. (Lee?)
The ART one would be right I suppose.

Thanks to everyone that has replied.
I do like the idea of a straight swap for an updated item, so I started searching for the Walbro pump as recommended by Lee. Their website lists a direct replacement. http://walbrofuelpumps.com/renault/gta-v6-turbo.html The part No. is GCL606 & comes with a variety of adaptors. I searched for a UK supplier & found one at £65 plus carriage & VAT It comes out at £92 all in. Not too bad

I think I feel happier with a new pump.

The new pump should arrive today or tomorrow.

I need to shut off the fuel flow from the tank before I pull the old pump out. Of course I had just filled the tank before I noticed the leak :crazy so its not practical to drain it.

Where is the best place to clamp the line. I was thinking of doing it on the rubber pipe attached to the front filter. Will this work ? or do both pipes from the tank, need to be clamped.

Thanks, Paul

You need to clamp it on the inlet to the new pump
