UN1 to 3.5 Vel Satis Feasibility?

Postby Tony Smith » Tue Sep 13, 2016 3:27 pm

Been thinking about another GTA project. Is it feasible to use a UN 1 on the Nissan Renault 3.5 litre v6 ? I'm assuming an adaptor plate would be easy enough but these normally run with dual mass flywheels, is that necessarily a problem, or is it a problem just to ditch it? Such a good and cheap, readily available engine, would make a GTA go like the clappers.

You see what you've done there don't you ....engine is cheap = install/making it work is cheap ....WRONG !

Better to spend on tuning the PRV ..No brainer unless you want to put a nice short block V8 in and then again that isn't cheap .No such thing unless you can do it all yourself

Flywheel could be an issue. The 3.5 Vees were all auto afaik

Brett has just dropped one into his Clio. He might have some insight.

won't there be some clearance problems?
PRV= 90 degree V6
L7X= 60 degree V6, often rotated sideways so sump/oil pickup could be an issue.

As the engine is narrower but taller, you may have issues with the hatch or at least not being able to see out due to cylinder heads and induction in the way. Or it may foul the turrets if left rotated?
Does someone have a tape measure? Clio V6 would be a good car to measure to see how the engine/gearbox might fit.

They are only about 250 in std form ...don't see the point but get an engine and I'll throw it on a subframe and see .

The 3.5 out of the Nissan 350z was manual and about 290 bhp in the later cars how ever Clee is right if it is going to be a nightmare to fit why not go all out and put a v8 in or the lovely Audi 2.7 v6 bi turbo!!! Would love to see how that would go.

I can't see the point in that either, RS4 2.7 V6 biturbot is 380hp, so is my 2.5ltr GTA turbo project car (Bluey F50...) - single turbo, Renix ecu, OE exhaust headers, OE 2.5 turbo exhaust valves, OE 2.5 turbo bottom end....

Stock it is. My old RS4 was 550 bhp after some mods and drove so well even at pottering speeds in town. When you put the hammer down it properly pined you in your seat! Also they are bomb proof.
