That seems a bit pointless making a GTA mid engine, in theory it should handle better but without spending thousands of hours testing and perfecting the suspension set up is probably going to be worse than standard.

Think the SLS was more of a follow up to the SLR which are several hundred thousand now. Makes a top end AMG SL look staggeringly good value. SLs are modified by AMG, SLS completely built by AMG.

As you have modified several cars how do you get insurance, nowadays they don't like stuff that is not on there list. Do you have to have an inspection or is it done by just getting an mot and photographs.

Adrian S Flux cover all mine and the daily drivers are dearer than any of the classics. They don't mind what mods you have, didn't bat an eyelid at the V8 GTA. Laguna is the dearest car on the breakdown of prices but I think that's because its not garaged.

Interesting all mine are with them, I have the yearly banter I think my GTA is like £140 and the 610 not much more, as you say the modern stuff is x3/4 times that

Sorry Tony, slight thread hijack...but some relevance...
[url] http://www.evo.co.uk/opinion/19857/the- ... ppointment? [\url]

In short V8 good, V6 disappointing unless maybe it's Italian....
Sounds like your v8 GTA will be quite a beast....which other GTA goes to make space?
Looking forward to seeing this....

Think that's a bit harsh on V6s, the japanese V6s are very smooth and plenty of V6s have good low down torque too. Some rough old ones about but to my mind not half as many as the anodyne droning 4 cylinder engines most cars use now , F4RT is a perfect example. V10s and W12s both sound pretty uninspiring most of the time too. Straight 6 smooth but pretty much any V* sounds great, even its an old mud plugger :0)

Well engine is in and looking good, going to change the inlet manifold 180 degrees as it will make a nicer job of the induction side. Alternator mounting looks like it will be the toughest problem now, being very close to the exhaust. Mounts and subframe have come out a treat.

Also made a choice of wheel, set of Kahns that were special order for a friends A610 many years ago, recently refurbed in black 7 x 18 and 10 x 18s

Image

Refurbed or new suspension all ready to go back on. And the weirdest starter motor ever.

Looking very professional Tony. Are those Dave Gentleman's old Kahn alloys?

Sits about 60mm further back, engine is no longer, so just width of adaptor plate really, bare engine is about 40kg heavier but hasn't got the turbo and intercooler. The pulleys sit further off the front of the engine for the ancillaries but they sit low. Be interesting to see the weight distribution once completed, with the spare wheel moved to the front don't think it will be much different to standard.

Mate I know you will have spent a lot of money but I can almost guarantee once you start driving it will put a bigger smile on your face than if you had spent geek money on a modern wireing crap car which you will destroy in a straight line. The thing with big cubes is the insane grunt from 800 rpm, I realise now I go on about it but have realised that a lot of people have never driven a high HP big cube V8, if you haven’t put it on your bucket list you will not be disappointed.

Well I ticked the box a few months ago and it's well OK I suppose. Not in love with it as much as I thought, I think I prefer the power delivery from the Turbo, lag and all. I'll be selling it soon to help pay for the 610 clutch and a new boiler.

Still going to be well jel of this GTA and the way it sounds.

That looks smooth but bland there is no visceral experience there you must have someone that has a cobra 427 replica or similar with 500hp plus under a ton to get the full experience. the v8 Gta is in that zone it is mega. Bugatti Veron l think is over 2 ton 1200hp get the idea, 550 ton, Gta 500 in 1.1 this is something big can’t wait for the finish from 800 to 5000 rpm without being able to move, this is big stuff only the brave, would do over 200 mph but would be flying.
