Historic Monte Carlo Rally

Postby stephendell » Sun Jan 20, 2013 11:48 pm

I was getting all excited about the Historic Monte Carlo when I read a BBC press release stating that Glasgow was the start point and that 100 cars would be starting there. They were due to pass Dartford on the A2 at approx 8.00 - 10.00pm next Saturday.

Then the number of cars starting at Glasgow dropped to about 40 with another 60 driving still over the start ramp as a procession to make an event of it.

Now the number of cars starting in Glasgow has dropped to about 8 and what a suprise not a single Renault or Alpine amongst them...

Most cars are starting in Reims including all the Renault Classic teams.
Trafic, Twingo GT, Vel Satis Turbo x 2, Clio V6 Proto Ph2, Vel Satis 3.5, Avantime, Alpine A610, GTA Atmo x 3, GTA Turbo x 3, R5 Gordini Turbo Mid Engine, Alpine A310 4cyl, Alpine A110, Yellow Smart

was Glasgow ever a monte start point? Fair old trip for a classic to even make France yet alone the Med from there.
never thought I would want a list but now find myself needing one just to remind me: Clio V6 230, 5 gt turbo, 5 Gordini turbo, Megane RS 300 Trophy.

I think stopping these start points was where rallying statred to lose its way. Must have been quite a site to see a load of rally cars on the roads back then.
I am sure a WRX fiesta or whatever would fail to make a liasion run of such distance.
How on earth did the French start point make up the distance?
