Postby gchristofi » Sun Sep 13, 2015 10:41 pm

Considering a front strut brace for tighten up the front of the turbo. Interested to hear any opinions as to the effectiveness or otherwise for you guys that have one fitted? Worthwhile track upgrade? Anyone tried the one from Simon auto or got links to others on the market?

Tim Jeffries has one in his Sprint A610.
I have one too, just not fitted it yet.

You mean you bought the Simon one or a different option? I've assumed fitting to be simple or is that not the case? Can you keep the front boot liner in place?

Front Strut Brace

Postby gchristofi » Thu Sep 17, 2015 12:26 pm

Found the following photo through Google...

Happy with the mods to the divider between the boot space and scuttle area, looks like a hole cutter could do most of this and I might even have the skills.

What I'm trying to figure out before buying a brace, is if there is any modification to the bodywork, fibreglass required at the mounting points at each strut... can't quite figure this one out? Help. If there is, can't see me doing that myself!

There is also another strut brace available for the front that fits between the front struts underneath the car...

You will need to put longer studs/bolts in the shocker top plates so they would have to be stripped down ,spring compressor job.Getting the shock off is a bit of a mission as it screws into the top arm/bush and will be solid with rust .You can't easily unscrew it in-situ anyway so best to remove the shocker and toparm as a unit .This will mean more rusty nut action and balljoint splitting and possibly breakages

I'd leave the brace for now and save up for a nice new set of dampers and springs then do the lot in one hit :up

Cheers lee. That's kind of what I was thinking. What you reckon re having to modify the tub plastic around the mounting points? Does it look standard in that pic or has it been cut?

That one looks to sit on top so no cutting of the turret tops .I have cut them out on JIL to fit my brace so that I have full contact to the steel and have reinforced the turret top with yet another plate on the underside .
