agreed the car accelerates faster in the lower gears, so it must be putting more power and torque to the wheels in the lower gears..... by multipying it through the gear box (basically a ratio converter).

Tony Smith wrote:Interesting to see the power outputs now they are adjusted. I reckon Dave Miles' car can't be lighter than my car - I'm only 5kg heavier than him and his car has lots of bits in than mine hasn't. I did have about 10 gallons of fuel though but still?

We had this conversation on the day and next time we will weigh all of the cars in the exact same location to avoid any differences due ground level.

Dave has lightweight wheels, aluminium calipers, fibre glass front bumper, no spare wheel and I think no reinforcement in the rear bumper. He does have additional equipment though.

1 gallon of fuel = 4.55 litres

Apparently unleaded weighs in at between 710g - 770g per litre so up to 3.5kg per gallon.

We did weigh Dave's car twice and the adjusted difference amounted to about 6bhp per tonne.

His rebuilt A610 gearbox also has a great shift action which will have helped with quick changes.

Also we weighed all the cars first thing and did all the powers runs last thing so fuel load will have decreased and driver weight increased proportional to size of lunch lol

Most of the weights look about right. Barry's A610 came in quite light though.

Only really standard car was Mark's Clio. Measured weight put the driver and other vehicle contents at 84kg

I had allowed 90kg for myself as passenger for the power runs and I was 92.9kg (dressed) when I checked at home so a maximum of 0.26% variation (ie negligible).

I think the main thing to note is that all the cars were tested on the same day with the same equipment in the same conditions so pretty much a level paying field.

Ratty has an old lump with a set of cams and an old box ....must just be skillfully driven ....WEIGHT is King !
Lowest power giving 2nd best results :thinking

Rebuilt box will be going in soon.LSD with altered ratios and final drive. Will be interesting to see what that does. All my other mods are concentrating on heat issues.

Yes you were nearly 400kg less than the heaviest 610 (with driver).

Also remembered Dave went to fill up at lunch time which massively improved stability at top speed.

That would put him around 1294kg for comparison.

Lol !! yes, I just had a couple of chips....top end doesn't interest me :yawn
Weight on mine looked about right, the same as when I weighed it at the MOT station.

Best example is Terry to Ratty.Terry has a slightly different spec T3 for road use.
Same spec, same builder, same tuner and same driver .

Also when you did the power what where the differences in the Power and torque curves between the engines. It would be interesting to over lay them with the results.

This is RATS' Racer
WP_20160606_001.jpg

I can only find Terry's on a different set of rollers ATM but I do have results from the runs at EFI-Parts somewhere or Terry or Martin will.I think this run at Peters' was before a few other tweaks.I can't remember exactly what but again Terry or MoFo will....they all blend into one after a while .
Martin should have the curves for Bluey at EFI as well .

Ok so you're curves seem to split and move around a bit as if they are being distracted but show the main bands are 4000 to 5500 and the second set 3500 to 5000 are they both 2.5 engines or 2.5 and 3lt. Not sure I could live jill's engine on the road, but where all the fast results from similar higher power band engines.

As I said both are same spec 2.5 with higher lift cams and fueling to suit.
Terry's map shows car as std then overlaid with modded runs later in the year .The EFI map will show current state with cams added.
RAT is for track,Terry for road.
I'm sure Martin will have data. The other 3 are JL built so I'm sure he'll have the charts.
