Insurance Renewal

Postby Matt Silver » Wed Apr 03, 2019 5:31 pm

Hi All, I'm currently insured through Lancaster and my renewal premium has increased by over £40.00 - maybe I'm being tight, but that's an increase of close to 30%.....and the 30% is hard bit to swallow!

Is there a club discount through any of the classic insurance providers......??

Thanks Matthew.

Most of the discount schemes offer money of the full rate premium which almost no one ever pays in reality. Most people already have some sort of discount applied and you can’t have both.

Matt,
I pay 147 per annum with Heritage, but I dont know how that compares to your premium.
I believe this is limited to 5000 miles per year, which is not difficult bearing in mind I dont use the car as a daily drive and also the speedo keeps knocking off :crazy

Heritage are good and cheap. I used them before I had to get the traders policy.

With Lancaster I paid £133.36 last year and the renewal this year was £173.16 - still cheap but a high percentage increase. After making the call asking for an explanation on the price hike, the price soon came down to £149.00.

Interestingly I spoke with Hagerty and they quoted £200.00, but can add the Lotus (laid up cover) on the same policy for a combined total of £249.00. In the past I have spoken to a few companies re: multi-car policy but only Hagerty have made it seem simple enough to be worthy. One policy does make sense, one renewal date and also you can remove/add cars etc and pay pro-rota until renewal time. Decisions, decisions.....

Cheers,
Matthew.

I changed to Hagerty for both the cars at the last renewal. I'd previously been with Lancaster for many years and when I submitted photos, at the time of renewal for the agreed valuation, a problem arose for the A110.

Because of the major restoration I'm doing, at the time of renewal I had a bare body shell just back from the painter and a large stack of restored or new parts. I sent Lancaster photos of all the major items. A letter from Lancaster then advised that they were cancelling the insurance because the car was less than 90% complete! I did suggest to them that restoration work was something commonly associated with classic cars but it fell on deaf ears. Surprising as they call themselves classic car insurance specialists. As a result of the cancellation I had to look elsewhere and chose Hagerty because they didn't have any problem in insuring a dismantled car.

To make matters worst with Lancaster, the policy for the A110 had only been renewed a month before the photos were sent and, as they'd cancelled the policy, I thought I'd be due a refund. They, however, applied a cancellation charge without any justification, which cancelled out any refund. I obviously questioned this bit didn't get anywhere. By this time I didn't want to waste any more time with them so cancelled the insurance for the A310 also, both cars now being with Hagerty.
